The Wine Room is a visionary design that’s objective is to redefine the traditional cellar door experience by integrating boutique accommodation and an experiential visitor programme at the Yealands Winery in Marlborough, New Zealand. The architecture uses a dynamic contrast between the sweeping curves of the structure inspired by the site's natural contours and the linearity of the vines, creating a dialogue between the built and natural environments. The main structure acts as a flowing ribbon draped over the more linear base, revealing and concealing spaces with intentionality. The project uses materiality to support the sustainable ethos with the use of biochar —a material derived from vineyard grape mark from site — within the fiber-reinforced concrete structure.
