This project is an extension of the People's Pantry group project, where my individual focus was on documenting the structure of our school lunch factory space. The design features a primary structural system composed of LVL and Glulam timber beams and columns, with Insulated Rammed Earth Walls providing shear strength. The floor is earthen, supported by concrete foundations as needed. The roof, designed with a sawtooth form, optimising daylighting, allowing diffused sunlight from the south to illuminate the workspace while maximizing solar gains. I have incorporated a Trombe wall system with a curtain wall on the north and east sides to capture and amplify winter sunlight, storing heat in the rammed earth wall. This stored heat is released into the factory at night, maintaining a comfortable ambient temperature for workers. Mechanical skylights, controlled by sensors, further regulate the space.
